Albany news, New York news.

A New York man was brutally killed by a pack of “eight or nine” dogs outside an Albany home on Wednesday.

When officers arrived at the scene behind a home on Central Avenue at around 6 p.m., they found the dogs “actively attacking” the victim, later identified as 59-year-old James Provost, in a yard.

An officer shot one of the animals in an effort to stop the attack. A caregiver ended the bloodbath when they arrived and herded 24 dogs into the home.

“We’re trying to figure out what his connection was and why he was there,” Police Chief Eric Hawkins said.

The dogs, including the one killed by officers, were being housed at the residence.

The chief believes the dogs’ owner will face charges for keeping too many animals, a majority of them pit bulls, at the home.

“We just don’t know what they are,” he added.
