A Texas couple was charged after they allegedly tortured their infant daughter to death late last month.
Harris County authorities charged Glenn Wayne Smith, 25, and Jasmine Marie Ellison, 23, over the death of their 5-month-old daughter Ja’nae Smith.
The infant died on Oct. 3, days after she was brought to the hospital with bleeding on her brain, blood coming from her mouth and broken ribs.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez called the incident “sad and disturbing” suggesting the victim endured a “horrific weekend” of abuse at the hands of her parents who waited four days before seeking medical help.
When Ja’Nae arrived at the hospital, she was “throwing up, partially paralyzed, and vomiting blood,” Gonzalez said.
Smith has been charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child while Ellison faces charges of causing serious bodily injury to a child by omission.
