A California man was fatally shot by a police officer after he allegedly attacked the cop in an “unprovoked attack.”
The suspect, described as a man in his 30s, approached the officer who was speaking with a civilian outside the Santa Monica Police headquarters at around 5:20 p.m. Saturday.
The officer told the suspect to wait until he finished speaking with the other person before he launched a knife attack on him.
“Without warning, the individual attacked the officer while pulling a knife from his clothing,” the department said.
“The suspect slashed and stabbed the officer.”
The man kept attacking the officer even after he armed himself and retreated behind the building,
Police said the officer shot the attacker who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
