Coal miner dies from injuries sustained on job in West Virginia

A coal miner succumbed Friday to injuries he sustained while working in northern West Virginia, officials said.

Colton Walls, 34, was wounded on Sept. 28 while on duty as a longwall electrician at the underground Leer Mining Complex in Grafton.

The worker is survived by his wife and three children, Gov. Jim Justice said.

    Further details about the incident were not disclosed as an investigation by MSHA and the state Office of Miners’ Health Safety and Training continued their investigation.

    Walls’ death is the fifth reported coal fatality in West Virginia and the 10th nationwide this year.
