Authorities in Birmingham, Alabama launched a homicide investigation Saturday after a decomposing body was found in a wooded area this week.
A passerby made the grisly discovery in a wooded area in the 3000 block of Jefferson State Parkway at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday.
The passerby then flagged down a Jefferson County deputy and police responded to the scene.

Investigators believe the deceased man was a victim of foul play.
An autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death is pending.
