4.2 magnitude earthquake shakes San Francisco Bay Area

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay and the Monterey Bay area early Sunday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 4-mile deep tremor struck 2 miles from Aromas at 2:47 a.m.

Residents as far away as Fresno and Kerman reported feeling the earthquake.

    “Definitely felt that in Gilroy! The alert came just as the shaking stopped,” another added.

    Earthquakes between 2.5 and 5.4 magnitude are widely felt but rarely cause damage.
