1 dead; 2 officers wounded in shooting at suburban Atlanta gun store

A suspected gunman was killed and two officers wounded in a shootout at a suburban Atlanta gun store, authorities said.

Smyrna Police officers responded to reports of gunfire and a burglary around midnight.

The officers located the suspect inside Adventure Outdoors, a retailer that has over 18,000 guns in stock and boasts itself as the world’s largest gun store.

  • “When officers arrived they encountered an armed gunman that was inside the store…gunfire erupted between the gunman and officers on the scene,” Police Chief Keith Zgonc said.

    The suspect was killed and two officers were wounded in the shootout.

    The officers were hospitalized and are expected to recover. The suspect’s identity remains unclear.

    “We’re not sure what his reasoning was for breaking into the store,” the chief added.
