A Virginia man has been charged after a 6-year-old child was caught with a loaded gun at an elementary school last week.
Drakar Rawlings, 31, was hit with a slew of charges including access to firearms by children and abuse and neglect of children.
Deputies responded to Orange Elementary School on Sept. 16 about a loaded firearm found in the backpack of a student.
Detectives determined the student never intended to use the firearm and didn’t even know it was in his backpack.
The school was placed in “safe mode” as deputies handled the situation. Nobody was harmed.
The sheriff’s office later thanked the community for their assistance in the “extremely complex” case that was filled with “a lot of false assumptions.
