4 dead, dozens wounded in Birmingham mass shooting

Four people were killed and dozens others were wounded Saturday night in a mass shooting in Birmingham’s Five Points South area.

Police received reports of the shooting in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue just after 11 p.m. Saturday.

Two men and a woman were declared dead at the scene after being found lying unresponsive on the sidewalk.

A fourth victim succumbed at UAB Hospital. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported eight victims to the hospital, four of them were suffering life-threatening injuries.

    “These mass shootings have more to do with culture than they do criminality,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.

    “Mayor Randall Woodfin said it best this week…we’re seeing far too many arguments being settled by bullets, and I think this speaks exactly to what our mayor just said.”

    Investigators believe multiple gunmen opened fire on a group of people. No arrests were made.
