Deputy accidentally shoots, kills girlfriend while cleaning gun: ‘I did not want this to happen’

A Florida deputy is facing manslaughter charges after he accidentally fired a fatal shot killing his girlfriend while they cleaned up weapons.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputy Leslie Boileau called 911 late Thursday to report the accidental shooting.

“Upon arrival, officers found the victim with a fatal gunshot wound to her forehead,” police said.

“A 9mm handgun was observed on the victim’s lap, and a rifle was also present at the scene.”

    Boileau said that he “grabbed the rifle and dry-fired it one time” and then placed a loaded magazine into the rifle.”

    Moments later, he tried to dry-fire the rifle again forgetting that it had ammunition “which shot one live round in the direction of his girlfriend, ultimately killing her.”

    “I know this looks really bad. I told her I did not want this to happen,” Boileau reportedly told detectives.

    Boileau was “immediately terminated” from his job and is currently being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
