9 children hospitalized after eating medication found on way to Chicago school

Nine kids were taken to a hospital Wednesday after they ingested medication found on their way to school believing it to be candy.

Chicago firefighters responded to a call reporting the incident at around 9 a.m.

  • The children, who were students at Richard J. Daley Elementary Academy aged between 8 and 9, ate “common over-the-counter medicine” they found on their way to school.

    Authorities tested the medication and ruled it had nothing unusual. The kids were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for evaluation.

    Officials later determined the kids ate heartburn medication. They all are expected to be fine.
