A California toddler was found dead Friday inside a hot car where her mother was also found unconscious next to empty alcohol bottles.
3-year-old Ily Ruiz and her 41-year-old mother, Sandra Hernandez, were taken to a hospital at around 4:30 p.m. after a family member found them and smashed the window to get them out.
Hernandez was supposed to go pick up another child from school but she never left.
Her toddler died from heat stroke complications as temperatures in the city reached 104 degrees that afternoon.
Ily’s father had already lost two sons, aged 5 and 9, when a drunk driver plowed into their tent during a camping trip in North Dakota.
“Ily was his princess, his daughter. He loves his kids; they are his world,” a cousin said.
Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child neglect after her release from the hospital.
