Houston news, Texas news.

The suspected murderer accused of the “atrocious” slaying of a 90-year-old Navy veteran has allegedly admitted to preying on the man because he wouldn’t fight back during his carjacking attempt.

Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux, 21, now faces capital murder charges for the killing of Nelson Beckett who was beaten, shot, and run over Saturday outside a Houston living apartment complex.

Assistant District Attorney Chandler Raines said Arceneaux targeted the victim who was using a walker thinking he was an easy prey.

“The defendant struck the complainant several times with his firearm before shooting him fatally and then continued to strike him after that, before robbing him, taking the keys to his car – and once inside the car, the defendant then drove the vehicle over the complainant’s body,” Raine said.

Arceneaux who was out on bond at the time of the crime abandoned the car less than three miles away and tried to get rid of fingerprints left on the car and his bloody shirt.

“As you can imagine our heart just breaks for this family,” Raine said.

“There’s no reason that this family shouldn’t have their loved one with them today.”
