Florida authorities arrested a tourist after he allegedly killed a bystander with a fire extinguisher on Wednesday.
Officers were called to a Quality Inn in Kissimmee at around 4 p.m. about a man stomping, kicking, and beating another with a fire extinguisher.
Piero Estefano But-Castillo, 25, was reportedly “still beating” 55-year-old Robert Krusinowski with his hands “covered in blood” when officers arrived at the scene.
Police learned that But-Castillo, from Chile, was mad at staff after he was asked to leave the hotel, and the victim, a longtime resident of the hotel, was attempting to calm things down.
“In an effort to calm him down, our victim – Mr. Robert Krusinowski, a 55-year-old man – was unarmed, just trying to de-escalate the situation,” Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said.
“However, our suspect – it angered him, and he just beat him. Beat him to death. It was a brutal beating with a fire extinguisher.”
The suspect is also accused of destroying hotel property. He was charged with murder, battery, and resisting an officer with violence among other counts.
“These savage attacks aren’t going to go unpunished here,” Lopez added.
