A Nevada woman was charged over a late August incident in which she broke into a funeral home and stole a casket with a deceased person inside it.
Patricia Sierra was charged with burglary, grand larceny, and disturbing human remains.
Police were called to a Las Vegas funeral home at around 3:30 a.m. on August 27 after someone found a body lying face down outside the business.
Officers found the body next to an empty casket and paperwork.
The documents identified the deceased and revealed his viewing was the day before the incident.
Surveillance footage from the funeral home showed a woman, later identified as Sierra, breaking the front window and unlocking the front door.
Sierra then grabs the casket and exits the business with it.
The suspect told detectives she was having substance abuse issues and had drank six beers before breaking into the business.
Sierra was reportedly “apologetic” telling cops she did not recall stealing the casket because she “blacks out.”
