A four-year-old boy is dead and several other migrants were wounded after the “Devil Train” they were riding to the US-Mexico border derailed Tuesday night.
Mexican authorities said twelve migrants were riding on the top of the 13-carriage vehicle when it slipped off tracks between Ahumada and Samalayuka at around 11 p.m.
A number of the carriages veered off the tracks and collided to each other; five of the carriages contained sulfuric acid and one sustained a leak in the incident, authorities said.
The deceased child was initially reported missing before his body was located in the wreckage hours later.
His Venezuelan family, the parents, and a 7-year-old child, all suffered critical wounds. A 17-year-old boy was also among the wounded.
The train dubbed, the “Devil Train” because of the dangers migrants face while riding it, was heading to Juarez when the derailment occurred.
