A Pennsylvania woman is behind bars after she allegedly confessed to beating her 3-year-old granddaughter to death over the weekend.
Police were called to Denise Johnson’s Pittsburgh home after an uncle found Ayla Miller dead on a mattress.
The toddler had obvious signs of abuse including bruising, cigarette burns, and an infected wound.
Johnson’s sister said the woman confessed to punching Ayla in the face causing her to fall backward and hit her head “really hard” against a table.
When confronted by police, Johnson confirmed the story adding that she was “too scared” to tell someone and she “beat [Ayla’s] butt for not listening and she fell into my table so hard.”
“I’m sorry I know I [should have] gotten help for her [but] she was already gone,” the grandmother reportedly said.
“I just been crying not eating scared numb guilty I’m so sorry I didn’t mean it honestly truly didn’t.”
Another grandchild of Johnson told cops she beat the toddler with a wooden stick until she stopped moving and kept beating her with a belt.
Police said Ayla’s mother had left her in the care of Johnson while she looked for a new place to live with her child.
