Georgia girl, 4, fatally shoots herself using brother’s unsecured, loaded gun

A 4-year-old Georgia girl fatally shot herself with her brother’s unsecured gun early Friday morning, Paulding County authorities said.

Medics and deputies responding to a 911 call found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

  • The girl was said to be “beyond help.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Investigators believe the child’s 20-year-old brother left his loaded firearm unsecured and unattended and “that the child must have retrieved it” and shot herself.

    The girl’s brother, Joseph Edwin Hinson, has since been arrested on charges of cruelty to children and second-degree murder.
