Two people were killed and four others wounded Sunday when a man drove his car through a restaurant patio as a group of medical workers celebrated a colleague’s new position.
The unidentified driver attempted to park outside the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park before accelerating through the outdoor patio plowing into a crowd of about 30 patrons.
While the victims’ identities remain unknown, a spokesperson for Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park said one of the two deceased victims and the four injured were employees of the facility.
The group reportedly went to the restaurant, which is not far from the hospital, to celebrate a colleague who was leaving for a new job.
Park Tavern’s owner identified the second deceased victim as 30-year-old Kristina Folkerts, a server at the business and a mother to three young daughters.
The driver is behind bars facing charges of criminal vehicular homicide; his motive remains unclear.
