2 killed, 1 seriously wounded in ‘tire explosion’ at Atlanta Delta Airlines facility

Two people were killed and a third was seriously hospitalized after a “tire explosion” at Delta’s TechOps facility in Atlanta Tuesday morning.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) said a tire exploded during an operational work at Delta’s facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport killing two people and hurting a third.

The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the decedents as Mirko. F. Marweg, 58, and Luis Aldarondo, 37.

    A witness from the scene said he spotted a bloodied body after the explosion.

    “I heard an explosion behind me and saw my co-workers running away from the direction of the explosion. I realized they were running to get help.”
