Kansas City news, Missouri news.

Two people and a pet dog were found dead after a powerful explosion that leveled a rural Missouri home Friday morning.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office got reports of the house explosion on Kimberly Drive in Excelsior Springs shortly before 5 a.m.

Once at the scene, deputies found out that the blast had destroyed the house and damaged neighboring homes.

“We have now located two bodies in the rubble of the home, believed to be residents,” Sarah Boyd, of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.

The explosion was reportedly felt for miles. Investigators are suspecting a propane leak caused the blast.

“We want to make sure we do a thorough investigation so this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Boyd added.

“If there’s something we can do to help others prevent this we want to do that.”
