2 killed, 2 wounded when verbal argument escalates into shooting in Oakland

Two people were killed and two others wounded Saturday morning when a verbal argument turned into a shooting in the San Francisco Bay Area, police said.

Gunfire erupted in a residential part of East Oakland shortly after 9 a.m.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue to find four people suffering from gunshot wounds.

  • Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The two others were hospitalized in an unknown condition.

    Police said the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation involving several people.

    One of the involved individuals pulled out a gun and began shooting, firing multiple rounds at the crowd, before taking off in a vehicle.

    The victims’ names are being withheld pending next-of-kin’s notification.
