An Alabama high school football player collapsed and died Tuesday during a team practice, authorities in Coffee County said.
New Brockton High School freshman Semaj Wilkins, 14, died after suffering a “medical emergency” during an afternoon practice.

A cause of death is under investigation. The school district is reportedly cooperating with authorities and providing counseling to students, parents, and staff.
“Semaj was a young man who brought joy and inspiration to his peers, teammates, coaches, and faculty members,” Superintendent Kelly Cobb said in a statement.
“His loss will be deeply felt by everyone who knew him.”
