Teen crashes stolen Kia with eight passengers killing 3; wounding 6 in Missouri

A teen driver crashed a packed stolen Kia Soul into another vehicle killing three people and wounding six others Tuesday evening, Kansas City Police said.

The stolen Kia Soul was carrying eight people when it crashed after ignoring an attempted traffic stop for a violation.

The crash occurred at E. 35th Street and Norton Avenue after the speeding driver approached a white Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the same lane and trying to make a left turn.

  • Authorities said the Kia struck the Chevrolet as it started to slow to make the turn, causing it to spin and wounding the driver.

    The Kia landed on its roof after crashing into a utility pole. The 16-year-old male driver and a 37-year-old man in the front passenger seat died at the scene.

    A female passenger died at a hospital. The five other occupants, ranging in age from 4 to 20-year-old, sustained serious injuries.

    Authorities are still investigating the crash.
