A one-year-old Memphis baby died Saturday after a mauling incident involving two dogs, authorities said.
Police responded to the mauling at a Cedar Run apartment Friday at around 5:20 p.m.
“They got here as fast as they could. When they arrived on the scene inside one of the apartments, two dogs were mauling a child, a small infant child,” Assistant Police Chief Don Crowe said.
“The officers discharged his weapon and dispatched both dogs. The officer grabbed the child up, ran downstairs, and started first aid on the child.”
One of the child’s parents was also injured while attempting to save the infant.
The child was taken to Baptist Pediatric Hospital in critical condition before they passed away.
“Right now, we just want to pray for that family and pray for that child and pray for the officer that had to face this tonight.”
