A full-term infant was found at a South Dakota recycling plant on Tuesday triggering an investigation.
Sioux Falls authorities said that the infant’s body was found by employees at Millennium Recycling facility at around 6:40 a.m.
“We’ve never had an infant found at a recycling center before,” police said.
It remains unclear how long the baby was at the plant or its cause and manner of death but public information officer Sam Clemens said the infant was a baby boy.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the incident and the ongoing investigation, Millennium Recycling is referring all media inquiries to local authorities,” the plant said in a statement.
“We are providing full support to our staff and appreciate the community’s understanding.”
“There will be no further comments at this time.”
