A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rattled southern California late Tuesday followed by dozens of aftershocks.
The US Geological Survey centered the quake in Lamont, California. It hit at 9:09 p.m. PST and was followed by aftershocks ranging from 3.7 to 4.7 magnitudes.

The tremor was felt as far away as Los Angeles as Californians were preparing for bedtime; no injuries or damages were immediately reported.
According to the State Department of Conservation, the most recent significant earthquake in the state that caused two fatalities and more than $200,000 in damage was the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck in the Pacific Ocean near Ferndale in 2022.
