Mechanic dies at Illinois auto repair after SUV falls on him

A mechanic at an Illinois auto repair died Wednesday after a vehicle he was working on fell on him, authorities said.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 55-year-old Dennis Modloff.

Modloff was working under a Jeep parked on a hydraulic vehicle lift with an under-hoist jack stand holding the rear axle at Kurt’s Service Center.

    The mechanic died after becoming pinned between the vehicle and the lift’s ramp, authorities said.

    First responders were called to the scene and provided life-saving measures but Modloff couldn’t be saved.

    An investigation into the incident continues.
