Authorities in Texas are warning residents to be careful when clearing out trees after an elderly man’s death from a bee attack.
The 75-year-old victim unknowingly disturbed a nest of Africanized honey bees while bulldozing trees on his Grimes County ranch on Tuesday.
The man was attacked more than 60 times on the face and neck area and died from his injuries.
County officials said bee hives are common warning residents to be aware of their presence.
“The severity of what happened and how this could happen to anybody and we don’t think about these things,” said Grimes County Justice of the Peace.
In the event of a bee attack, people are told to cover the head and face as they look for a safer place or get away from the scene.
Allergic residents should always keep an EpiPen on them and immediately call 911 if attacked.
