Authorities in India are looking for the husband of an American woman after she was found chained to a tree in a jungle last weekend.

The emaciated victim, identified as US citizen Lalita Kayi Kumar, was discovered chained with a metal chain to a tree after shepherds heard her screaming for help.

Videos from the horrific scene showed the emaciated 50-year-old woman in loose, ragged clothing being helped by the rescuers.

After receiving treatment at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior of the Goa Medical College, doctors said the victim was “out of danger” though still suffering psychiatric problems.

Investigators said they had Kumar’s U.S. passport, an Indian ID, and other documents as they started looking for her husband.

“We registered an attempt to murder case on 30th July,” the police inspector said adding that authorities “have very little information about her husband right now.”
