Vermont toddler dies in hot car; becomes 16th child’s fatal vehicular heatstroke in US

A Vermont baby has died last week after being left in a hot car, authorities said.

The incident unfolded Wednesday in the parking lot of a Milton business where an 18-month-old was found unresponsive in a hot car.

The baby was rushed to the University of Vermont Medical Center where they were declared dead.

  • “This is something that nobody thinks can happen to them until it does,” said Amber Rollins of the nonprofit Kids and Car Safety.

    “If you got a lot of things going on and you jump in your car, autopilot kicks in.”

    The toddler’s death marks the 16th pediatric vehicular heatstroke in the US this year.
