A devastated Alabama family shed more light on a massacre carried out by a schizophrenic man earlier this week.
Brandon Allan Kendrick, 32, fatally shot his wife Kelse Kendrick, 24, their two children, 6 and 2; and two cousins, 8 and 6, in a horrific bloodbath late Thursday.
Kendrick’s grandfather heard a gunshot from the garage apartment on his property where his grandson and his family lived.
“The door was knocked off its hinges, almost like {Kelse} had locked him out and he broke the door down before shooting them,” Kelse’s uncle Eli Morrow said.
The grandfather wrestled the gun away from the suspect before calling 911 and Kelse’s family.
The relative said that Kelse and her children suffered from domestic abuse for years but things worsened over the last two weeks.
“He got to a point where he couldn’t work full time, so there were financial problems from that, and she was having to take care of the kids and him so she couldn’t work either..which just made it worse,” he said.
Kendrick reportedly suffered from schizophrenia since childhood and had a history of abandoning his medication.
“Things were getting very difficult all the way around…she was doing her best to be a supportive wife,” Morrow said of Kelse.
“The one time she gets away after things had been so hard for her, he wanted her back home.”
