Chicago news, Illinois news.

A Chicago postal worker was killed in the line of duty Friday when a male suspect drove by and fired several shots at her.

48-year-old Octavia Redmond was delivering mail, standing in front of a house on South Harvard Avenue when she was gunned down.

Witnesses saw the suspect’s vehicle driving down the street and heard a dozen gunshots.

“My heart is shattered because she was a nice lady. She just come up and down the block and deliver the mail, she didn’t bother nobody,” said Kim Sanders who works in the area.

With the hope of finding the culprit, the U.S. Postal Inspector of Chicago has offered $250,000 as reward for any relevant information leading to his arrest.

“Investigating the loss of life is the most important thing we can do,” said Postal Inspector Spencer Block.

“So, when we lose one of our own, a postal employee, we take it as seriously as anything we could do in this job. This is why we’re here.”
