Kamala Harris says her thoughts ‘immediately’ turned to Melania after assassination attempt on Trump

In her first public address since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris said she was concerned for Melania Trump during the events.

“As we all know it was a heinous, horrible, and cowardly act. My husband Doug and I are thankful he was not seriously injured,” the VP said.

“That day as soon as we saw what was happening, we said a prayer for his wellbeing,” Harris added referring to the former president.

    Harris noted that “no one should have to fear the safety of a loved one because they serve in public office.”

    “Violence is never acceptable…at the same time, the hallmark of American democracy is a strong competition of ideas.”

    The vice president’s remarks came ahead of a roundtable discussion on abortion rights in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
