Four people were killed in a drive-by shooting at a packed birthday party late Saturday, Birmingham police said.
Gunfire erupted at a large gathering at a social club in the 3400 block of 27th Street in Birmingham just after 11 p.m.
Birmingham Police Deputy Chief Rodarius Mauldin described the scene as chaotic.
A man was found outside the venue and two women found inside it were declared dead at the scene.
A fourth person later died at UAB Hospital. At least nine other victims suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Mauldin said preliminary information indicates the shots were fired from a vehicle at the crowd of about 150 people.
“We’re unsure what led to the incident and whether someone was targeted,” he added.
“We know there was a lot of people that saw and heard various things.”
