An attack with a deadly weapon on a California beach has left two people dead and three others hurt late Thursday, authorities said.

The attack unfolded in a crowded area of Huntington Beach less than a couple hours after the fireworks show, police said.

The act of violence was only described as an “assault with a deadly weapon” as of Friday morning.
