Husband strangles wife to death; housemates help him dispose of body

A South Carolina man is behind bars after he allegedly admitted to strangling his young wife to death early in August.

Jessica Barnes’ mother reported her missing on Sept. 10. Investigators believe she was murdered a month earlier by her 21-year-old husband Brandon Barnes.

The 20-year-old woman’s remains were located in Twin Lakes, South Carolina, and identified through dental records.

Barnes’ husband admitted to strangling her “using her arms” on August 2.

    A second housemate, Kendall Mims, allegedly "rendered assistance to" the suspect to "avoid the consequences of his crime" by helping him get rid of the body.

    Mims also “did have multiple opportunities to report the murder to law enforcement and did fail to do so.”

    Barnes has been charged with murder. Tippett and Mims were charged with being accessory after the fact, obstruction of justice, and neglecting to report a crime.
