Body recovered from South Carolina river following reports from college students

Authorities in Richland County, South Carolina are investigating after a dead body was found Tuesday in the Congaree River.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said officers recovered the body from the river close to the Jordan Memorial Boat Ramp.

  • Deputies responded to the scene at around 6 p.m. after USC students reported seeing the body in the area of 600 block of Rosewood Drive, about a mine from Williams-Brice Stadium.

    The person’s identity remains undetermined but the Richland County Coroner’s Office said the body had no signs of trauma.

    The death may be related to Hurricane Helene and the floods that hit the areas along Congaree River in Columbia amid the deadly storm.
