Moravia news, Iowa news.

Authorities in Appanoose County, Iowa are investigating the mysterious drowning of a high school athlete who “suddenly” vanished while swimming in a Moravia beach.

Aydeen Beeson, 17, died just weeks after his graduation at Centerville High School where he had been elected the “prom king.”

An anonymous 911 call reported the drowning at 6:13 p.m. Wednesday, sending police to Rathbun Lake near the Buck Creek campground.

Investigators have no idea how Beeson, a football and tennis player, got into difficulty while swimming and who called 911 to report that he had vanished beneath the water.

“Students and staff recognized that Ayden was a genuinely kind person who treated every student and staff member with respect,” the high school said in a statement.

“Words cannot express the depth of the sadness felt by the school community in this horrible tragedy.”
