A new Florida father was found dead in a Davie park by his own dad after a lightning strike, family says.
19-year-old Ethan Lawrence was running in Vista View Park Sunday morning when he was fatally struck by lightning.
Lourdes Lawrence grew worried about Ethan when he did not call her after several hours and sent her husband to his location.
“The detectives came over to my car and told me, ‘I don’t know if there is any easy way to say this at all, so I’m just going to tell you unfortunately, your son was running, he was struck by lightning and he didn’t make it,” Patrick Lawrence said.
Ethan was a dean’s scholarship student at Nova Southeastern University and had plans to run cross country.
He left behind a baby daughter he welcomed into life in December. His mother said she felt a jolt around the time the teen was struck.
“Around that time, I was upstairs, and I felt a very sharp pain in my chest,” the woman recalled.
“I said to myself, ‘Am I having a heart attack? What is going on? Then, I said to myself, ‘He’s gone. Why my son? Why.”
