Kentucky man shot, killed when customer at gun store accidentally discharges firearm

A Kentucky man is dead after he was accidentally shot while at a gun store last weekend.

50-year-old Chad Wainscott suffered a fatal gunshot Saturday when a fellow customer at the Carroll County shop fired a weapon.

Deputies “located the victim inside the store receiving treatment by EMS for a gunshot wound.”

  • “The preliminary investigation indicates that a customer in the store was viewing a firearm for sale and manipulating it when a single round discharged, striking the victim, who was also in the store,” police said.

    “Other store patrons immediately attempted life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.”

    The individual who had been manipulating the firearm at the time of the incident “is cooperating with investigators, and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed.”

    The incident was deemed a tragic accident and no foul play is suspected in the death.
