4 killed when possible DUI driver led California cops into chase that ended with deadly crash

Authorities in Upland, California said that four people were killed in a horrific crash Friday when a driver failed to pull over during a traffic stop.

A Rancho Cucamonga deputy attempted to stop a 2018 Hyundai for suspected DUI when the driver did not cooperate and led police into a chase at about 2 a.m.

The pursuit lasted a few minutes ending in a tragic crash with a Ford Mustang heading north on Mountain Avenue in an Upland intersection.

The Hyundai then crashed into a light pole and broke apart killing four occupants.

  • “The suspect vehicle ended up in three separate parts, and four occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s PIO Gloria Huerta.

    A 13-year-old boy was reportedly ejected from the Hyundai and taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

    Two occupants of the Mustang were also taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

    Authorities later determined that the Hyundai had been reported in Fontana. A loaded firearm was recovered from the wrecked vehicle.
