A Hurricane, West Virginia mother was charged with murder on Monday after she was accused of squeezing her days-old daughter to death last week.
Brooke Kessler was reportedly suffering from postpartum depression when she allegedly squeezed the 16-day-old girl “too hard” while burping her.
The baby was brought to a Charleston hospital on Thursday with brain injuries, six broken ribs, a broken arm, and bruises on her throat, head, and left eye.
Police said the girl succumbed to her injuries on Sunday. The wounds appeared to be “suspicious/ non-accidental in nature.”
The 33-year-old mother had upgraded charges of death of a child by a parent in connection to the incident.
She is being held at the Western Regional Jail while awaiting her arraignment.
