Authorities in Maryland are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred during a football game involving 7-year-olds Saturday.
Shots were fired at a Maryland High School during the game at 11:20 a.m.
“In between games, two individuals became involved in a verbal altercation,” Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz said.
“They appeared to know each other. It escalated into one person pulling out a weapon and shooting the other person.”
The shots struck the man and a 5-year-old, police said. They were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
The adult died from his injuries while the child is expected to survive.
Officials said the suspect fled after the shooting without providing a description or information about his identity.
