2 killed in small plane crash near California’s South Lake Tahoe

A small plane crash near South Lake Tahoe, California killed two people early Thursday, officials said.

Alpine County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to an overdue aircraft at around 1 a.m. and used GPS data to locate the plane.

The wrecked single-engine Luscombe 8A was found near Luther Pass next to Willow Creek Road, officials said.

    The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA have launched an investigation into the incident.

    Identities of the two victims are being confirmed by the coroner’s office and will be released after next of kin’s notification.
