A small plane crash in the area of Franklin, Tennessee left three people dead Wednesday, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the single-engine Beechcraft V35 was on its way to Kentucky when it crashed at around noon.
Williamson County Sheriff Mark Elrod said that first responders found a “rather large debris field” estimated at a half-mile long.
“It was quickly evident that this would be a search-and-recovery operation not a search-and-rescue operation,” he told reporters.
He added that investigators are “unsure where the crash started or where it ended.”
“It does appear that the plane did break up in the air, unsure what caused that.”
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
