A missing California infant is presumed dead as the search for his remains continues in a local landfill.
Yusuf Dewees, 24, was charged with the murder of 3-week-old Baki Dewees who was last seen alive with him on May 3.
“Unfortunately, this started off as a missing infant and now it is a death investigation,” said Lt. Omar Camacho on Tuesday.
“We’re searching [the landfill] based on where the investigation has taken us, and unfortunately we weren’t able to find anything today.”
The baby’s mother, 25-year-old Rosealani Gaoa, was also arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse.
The couple’s three remaining children were placed in the custody of welfare officials.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the family of this innocent child and extend our support in the face of such senseless violence,” said L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon.
“Child abuse has no place in our society, and such acts of violence are beyond the pale,”
“We are committed to vigorously seeking justice for the victim and their loved ones.”
