Construction worker dies after accident involving forklift at Oregon high school

An Oregon construction worker died Saturday following an accident involving a forklift at Portland’s Benson Polytechnic High School.

Samantha “Sam” Deschenes succumbed to injuries she sustained Thursday afternoon while she worked at the high school, the Portland Fire and Rescue said.

Her employer, Ironworkers Local 29, confirmed the fatality adding that she was a member of their crews for the last three years.

“It is with great sorrow that we confirm the loss of one of our members due to injuries sustained in a job site accident,” the firm’s representatives said.

    “Work was suspended in the interest of the health and well-being of our team members,” the construction company said,

    “We are working with safety and health officials as part of the accident review,”

    “Our primary focus is helping Sam’s family as well as providing mental health support to our team members.”
