Rockport news, Maine news.

Authorities in Rockport, Maine identified the victim of a deadly explosion at a local steel plant as an inmate participating in a work-release program.

Sean Rancourt, 39, was killed Friday when a 25-gallon diesel fuel tank he was welding exploded while he worked at Rockport Steel, a metal fabrication facility.

Rancourt was set to be released from jail in September after serving six years for the fatal drug overdose of his longtime friend.

“Sean had no idea that the drugs that Kevin bought from Sean were so powerful that they would result in Kevin’s death,” Rancourt’s attorney said at sentencing.

“If he knew, he never, ever would have sold them to him.”
