An innocent UPS driver was cold-bloodedly shot and killed while eating his lunch inside his truck Thursday afternoon, police in Irvine said.
The victim was gunned down in his truck parked near Chrysler and Bendix at around 3 p.m. when the suspect pulled up in a pickup truck next to him.
Police said that the suspect, who was wearing a face mask, started shooting at the victim. At this time, it remains unclear whether the pair knew each other.
“We don’t know exactly what the relationship is between these two gentlemen, if any,” said Sgt. Karie Davies.
“This definitely seemed targeted, meaning it wasn’t a robbery, didn’t appear to be a robbery.”
The suspect was arrested hours later after barricading himself inside his truck. Police used a chemical agent and a dog to force him out of the truck.
The unidentified victim was known in the area and community members revealed that he always ate his lunch at the spot where he was killed.
“I mean, he’s a friendly gentleman, he never really displayed any sort of attitude, any sort of negativity, or anything like that,” one said.
“Just kind of like your normal delivery guy.”
